How to work with entities
How to create an entity
Dimensions > Entity > List
Please find below the basic procedure for creating a new entity.
- In the entity elements table, click
: an empty row will be added. - In the Attributes tab, insert the code for the new entity.
- Set all the characteristics for the entity in the various configuration tabs, then click Save: the new entity will be listed in the data table.
How to inherit settings from another entity
Dimensions > Entity > List
This procedure is useful to create a company that is similar to an existing one, as it speeds up the set-up process.
- In the entity elements table, select the entity to be defined and then click
> Relate as similar company: the relationship window will open. - In Reference Company, select the entity from which to inherit the settings: all the "inheritable" characteristics for that entity will be displayed.
- Select the characteristics to be inherited, then click Run: the entity selected in the elements table will inherit all the selected characteristics.
How to relate an entity to time-dependent hierarchies
Dimensions > Entity > List
This is useful for managing entities that belong to different nodes and hierarchies at different moments in time.
- In the entity elements table, select the desired entity and go to the Relationships tab, then click TD hierarchies relationships: theTD hierarchies relationships page will open.
- Click
: an empty row will be added, allowing you to define a new relationship. - In the Attributes tab, set the reference scenario, the relationship period and the hierarchy node with which to create the relationship, then click Save.
How to relate counterparties to an entity
Dimensions > Entity > List
This is useful when an entity has frequent relations with certain counterparties, and you would like to facilitate data entry.
- In the entity elements table, select the desired entity and go to the Counterparties tab; select a counterparty from those available.
- Click
to add other counterparties.
How to create a CTP dynamic group
Dimensions > Entity >
> CTP dynamic groups
- In the CTP dynamic groups elements table, click
: an empty row will be added. - In the Attributes tab, define the SQL rule that allows you to select the desired counterparties, then click Save: the new dynamic group will be listed in the data table.
- To view a list of all the elements selected by the SQL rule, clickDefinition result.
- To apply the rule and fill the group, click
: a window will open, allowing you to limit the process to a specific scenario and period. - Set the desired restrictions and then click OK: the group will be filled in.
How to recode an entity
Dimensions > Entity > List
- In the entity elements table, select the entity whose code needs to be changed.
- Select
> Recode: the Recode - Company Dimension page will open. - Click
: an empty row will be added. - In the Attributes tab, under Code, select the code to be replaced.
- Under New Code, insert the new code to be assigned to the entity.

IMPORTANT: the new code must not already be used in Tagetik. 6. Select Primary if the code inserted must prevail in case of any conflict. 7. Click Save to save the new code. 8. Repeat from step 3 in order to change other codes. 9. Click Run to recode all the new codes saved.
Note: this operation may take several minutes.
How to relate an entity to a node in a hierarchy
Dimensions > Entity > List
This procedure is useful for creating groupings to which specific rules and configurations may be applied.
- In the entity elements table, select one or more entities to be related to the same node.
- In the Relationships tab, select the node with which to create the relationship, then click Save.
How to define custom dimension restrictions for an entity
Dimensions > Entity > List
For each control group, it is possible to define restrictions, i.e. to exclude data from specific custom dimensions from being collected.
- In the entity elements table, select the entity for which to create restrictions.
- In the Restrictions tab, set the desired type of restriction for each custom dimension shown.
- Click Save: for custom dimensions for which a restriction has been set, the Define command will be displayed together with the
symbol, indicating that there are elements for which the entity is to be restricted. - Click Define: the specific page will open allowing you to define the restrictions.
- Click
to add an element. - In the Attributes tab, set whether to include or exclude the element, and select the single custom dimension elements or nodes of a non-time-dependent hierarchy defined for the custom dimension.
- To enable a hierarchy node, but exclude an element from it, you must first set the node and then the exception on the next line.

IMPORTANT: The system implements restrictions based on the order in which they are inserted in the definition window. If two restrictions are in conflict, the one implemented last in the sequence will prevail.
- Click Save.
- To view a list of all the selected elements, click Definition result.
How to set relationships between entities for the control chart
Dimensions > Entity >
> Control type
This procedure creates relationships between companies so you can then use them in the control chart.
- In the control types list, click
: an empty row will be added. - In the Attributes tab, insert a code and a name for the control type and then click Save: the new type of relationship will be listed in the data table.
How to define the relationship between group entities based on the scenario in the control chart
Dimensions > Entity >
> Control chart
- In the control chart elements table, click
: an empty row will be added. - In the Attributes tab, select the reference scenario and the period for which the relationship is valid.
- Select the two entities and the control type, then click Save: the new relationship will be listed in the data table.
How to generate a report on the entity's custom dimension restrictions
Dimensions > Entity > List
This is useful for creating reports containing information about specific custom dimensions managed for the entities listed.
- Select
> Restrictions on custom dimensions report: a window will appear allowing you to set the parameters for generating the report. - In the Input filters section, select the filters to define the entities that will be included in the report.
- In the Output section, define how to break down and group information in the report. For each type of output selected, a dedicated tab will be created in the report.
- Click OK: the requested report will be generated in Excel format.
