Dynamic reference

A "standard" reference is an object whose value depends on the object it refers to. When it is necessary to refer to an object of Free text type shared by several documents but containing different numeric values in the various documents ("from Form" objects), a fixed structure may be not efficient enough, especially if the numeric values frequently vary. For example, in the text The "value" of the revenues for the "current year" is ..., it is possible to link the "current year" and "value" objects to the target document rather than to the source document. For this reason, it is possible to define the "Dynamic references", namely references whose final value, in terms of content, is determined only when updating the document part containing them.

In order to define a reference as "dynamic" in the General area of the properties of the Reference object, it is necessary to enable the "Update with target filters" option.

When this option is enabled, all the elements in the Free text object will be dynamic elements.

The "dynamic" references:

• can be updated only server side
• keep any manual overrides applied to the referred object
• inherit the formatting from the referred object and lose any formatting applied to the object itself.
