What is a snapshot: Snapshot
How to set it up:
Snapshot scenarios configuration
The utility is only visible if the snapshot is enabled for the selected process and for the dimension step.
Execution mode:
-
for Entity steps:
-
The datasets associated with the step, filtered by the selected entities, are copied onto the Analytical Workspace
- The data for all the steps, filtered by the selected entities, are copied onto the Analytical Workspace
- for steps with Custom or Analytical dimensions, the datasets associated with the step and filtered by the selected elements are copied.
Data processing can be performed by selecting one or more lowest level elements or a node (in which case the data processing is performed for all lowest level elements in the node).
It considers only the reporting layer partitions.
The system retrieves data from AIH partitions that refer to the scenario, period, and step dimensions.
The snapshot applies user restrictions only for the dimensions for which it is running the snapshot.
In order to create a snapshot, the user must specify:
- the creation action (Create)
- theversion number (Version) of the snapshot scenario to which the data is to be copied
- and any Notes
Once the 'Version' has been specified, the user can view the list of previously created snapshots
To restore a snapshot, the user must specify:
-
the restore action (Restore)
-
theversion number (Version) of the snapshot scenario from which to restore the data
-
the snapshot(s) to be restored
IMPORTANT: The copy process does not perform aggregations and preserves the original data sources.
Preliminary checks¶
CCH Tagetik, before proceeding with the creation of the snapshot scenario, verifies:
- that none of the scenarios to copy have been stored offline
- for each scenario to copy, that the corresponding snapshot scenario has opened the same periods, and that those periods have not been locked
- that there is a snapshot scenario of the event scenario related to the process, where the scenario to copy is related to a financial planning process
Before restoring a snapshot scenario, CCH Tagetik reports a blocking error if a filter by dimension on which no snapshot was previously created is selected.
Snapshots on AIH¶
Based on the process and partition types of the dataset, the partitions are selected as per the table:
| Process type | Partitioning of the Dataset | Data selection criterion |
|---|---|---|
| Scenario / period | Not partitioned | - The scenario/period columns are required - If the snapshot type is By entity, the partition must have an Entity column - If the snapshot type is Also by other dimensions, the partition must have the respective Dimension columns |
| Scenario / period | Partitioning by business cycle | - The scenario/period columns are not required - If the snapshot type is By entity, the partition must have an Entity column - If the snapshot type is Also by other dimensions, the partition must have the respective Dimension columns |
| Scenario / period | Partitioning by business cycle and entity | - The scenario/period/entity columns are not required - If the snapshot type is Also by other dimensions, the partition must have the respective Dimension columns |
| Single cycle | Not partitioned | - If the snapshot is By scenario, the scenario column is required - If the snapshot is By scenario/period, the period column is required - If the snapshot type is By entity, the partition must have an Entity column - If the snapshot type is Also by other dimensions, the partition must have the respective Dimension columns |
| Single cycle | Partitioning by business cycle | - If the snapshot is By scenario, the scenario column is required - If the snapshot is By scenario/period, the period column is required - If the snapshot type is By entity, the partition must have an Entity column - If the snapshot type is Also by other dimensions, the partition must have the respective Dimension columns |
| Single cycle | Partitioning by business cycle and entity | - If the snapshot is By scenario, the scenario column is required - If the snapshot is By scenario/period, the period column is required - The entity is not required - If the snapshot type is Also by other dimensions, the partition must have the respective Dimension columns |
