Category

Category is one of Tagetik’s key dimensions, as it provides the means for the classification and segmentation of data (particularly journals) and thus makes it possible to keep track of the way in which data items are generated (entered manually, loaded from accounting records, or generated automatically through processing).

For financial planning purposes, the categories to be used are typically:

  • a “base” category:
  • from which the system reads the data of the Initial actual BS and Projected P&L account;
  • on which it writes the Forecast BS and the integrations to the P&L account (automatic calculation of depreciation, medium-/long-term financial expenses and income and with the management of taxation);
  • a category on which to write cash flows or on which the system writes the account “responsible” for all financial entries (this account can be a projected P&L account or initial balance sheet account, an asset account, a salary account, etc.).

Moreover, if the sub-entities are involved in the financial planning process, it is possible to define two more categories:

  • one category on which to write notional data
  • one category on which to write notional cash flows

so as to keep the data generated on them separate from the data generated on the entities.

The list of categories can be accessed from the administrator-user’s web interface by following the path Set-up and Admin > Dimensions > Categories > List.

Navigation panel> Dimensions > Categories > List.

For more details on the attributes to set during the definition of a category, see the Basic Administration / Data Model HTML5 / Category chapter of the user manual.
