Algebraic Operations

Algebraic operations can be run from the process cockpit, “Detail summary” tab, by clicking “Data operations” in the “Actions” panel.

The algebraic operations can be defined only if the user has administrator rights.

When you need to define the data of a Scenario by combining data of other Scenarios through simple algebraic operations, in CCH Tagetik it is possible to use the Algebraic Operations that include Sum, Subtraction, Year-to-date calculation, Deletion and Compress.

Each Algebraic Operation is defined by a set of rules.

Rules

Each rule of an Algebraic Operation is defined by the following properties:

  • Sequence. Mandatory. It is the unique ID of the rule and represents the order in which the rules are run.
  • Description. Mandatory.
  • Operation Type. Mandatory. It defines the type of Algebraic operation applied by the rule; the following types are available:

  • Sum, adds data read from other Scenarios / Periods

  • Subtraction, subtracts data read from other Scenarios /Periods
  • Year-to-date calculation, calculates as year to date data read from the Periods of the selected Scenario
  • Deletion, deletes data of the selected Scenarios and Periods
  • Compress, compresses the records on the selected Scenarios / Periods

  • Mode. Specifies if the current rule applies to an entire Scenario, to a single Period or to an interval of Scenarios / Periods.

Additional options are available according to the selected operations type, as described below.

Sum and Subtraction

With Sum or Subtraction Algebraic Operations, the following additional properties are available:

  • Markup. Specifies the percentage of input data to take into account when applying the rule. By default, it is 100%.

  • An Input area in which the following properties are defined:

  • Scenario. Mandatory. It specifies the source Scenario. Only an Original and active Scenario can be selected.

  • Period (From). Mandatory. It defined the source Period (with "Period" mode") or the Initial Period of the source interval (interval” mode). With the "Scenario" mode this is not displayed. Only a Period from the selected Scenario can be chosen.
  • Period To. Mandatory. It is visible only with "Interval" mode and specifies the final Period of the source interval. Only a Period from the selected Scenario can be selected.
  • Period length. It specifies how data to run have to be read; Possible values

  • Cumulated (Default). The system reads the cumulated data of the period to run.

  • Periodic. The data the system reads is the difference between the cumulated data of the period to run and the cumulated data read n previous periods, where n is the value specified by the “Step” property.

  • Step. Mandatory. It is visible only if the data to run is periodic and it specifies the period length with which to read the data.

  • Category. Specifies possible filters on the Category dimensions to apply to the data to run. It is possible to specify a Category or a grouping.

  • An Output area, in which the following properties are defined:

  • Scenario. Mandatory. It defines the target Scenario for the run data. Only an original and active Scenario can be selected.

  • Period (From). Mandatory. It defined the target Period (with "Period" mode") or the Initial Period of the target interval (interval” mode). With the "Scenario" mode this is not displayed. Only a Period from the selected Scenario can be chosen

  • Period Length. It defines the number of months of the amounts to write. Possible values:

  • Cumulated (Default). The output values of the data processing are considered cumulated and written straight away.

  • Periodic. The output values of the data processing are considered periodic with variance equal to the specified “Period length”: before these values are written, cumulated values from the previous period are added (identified on the basis of the defined “Step”).

  • Step. Mandatory. It defines the step with which the data processing interval must be defined: if 1, the data is written on all periods of the interval. Otherwise, it is written every n Periods, where n is the selected value, moving backwards from Period “To” to Period “From”, in case of “Interval” mode, or from the last Period of the Scenario ( “Scenario” mode).

  • Category. Mandatory, it defines the Category used to write the run data.

  • A Filters area. Here it is possible to specify possible filters on the Entity, Account dimensions and Custom dimensions, to apply during data processing. It is possible to specify an element or a node of a non-time dependent hierarchy.

  • An Aggregation area. It allows specifying a non-time dependent for the Entity, Account dimensions and Custom dimensions. If specified, the read data are aggregated on the parent node of the selected hierarchy to which each element is related and the result is saved on the reference lowest element of the node.

Year-to-date calculation

The Year-to-date calculation operation allows you to read data on a set of Periods, considering them periodic, and overwrite them – whatever their origin – with the corresponding cumulated values. In this case, the following properties are available:

  • Scenario. Mandatory. It specifies the Scenario to run. Only an Original and active Scenario can be selected.
  • Period (From). Mandatory. It specifies the Period to run (with “Period” mode) or the initial Period to run ( “Interval” mode). It is not displayed with the “Scenario” mode. Only a Period of the selected Scenario can be selected.

  • Period To. Mandatory. It is displayed only with “Interval” mode, and defines the final period of the to run. Only a Period of the selected Scenario can be chosen.

  • Category. Mandatory. It defines the Category to run.

  • A Filters area. It allows you to specify possible filters on the Entity dimension. It is possible to specify an element or a node of a non-time dependent hierarchy.

Deletion

This Operation allows you to delete data from a set of Scenarios / Periods, for a given set of data. In this case, the following properties are available:

  • Scenario. Mandatory. It specifies the Scenario to run. Only an Original and active Scenario can be selected.
  • Period (From). Mandatory. It specifies the Period to run (with “Period” mode) or the initial Period to run ( “Interval” mode). It is not displayed with the “Scenario” mode. Only a Period of the selected Scenario can be selected.

  • Period To. Mandatory. It is displayed only with “Interval” mode, and defines the final period of the to run. Only a Period of the selected Scenario can be chosen.

  • Category. Mandatory. It defines the Category to run.

  • A Filters area. Here it is possible to specify possible filters on the Entity, Account dimensions and Custom dimensions, to apply during data processing. It is possible to specify an element or a node of a non-time dependent hierarchy.

Before running the data processing, the system deletes all data present on those scenarios periods, whatever their origin.

Compress

This Operation allows you to aggregate data of the same dimensions on one single record, on the selected Scenarios / Periods. The detail of the origin is ignored. In this case, the following additional properties are available:

  • Scenario. Mandatory. It specifies the Scenario to run. Only an Original and active Scenario can be selected.
  • Period (From). Mandatory. It specifies the Period to run (with “Period” mode) or the initial Period to run ( “Interval” mode). It is not displayed with the “Scenario” mode. Only a Period of the selected Scenario can be selected.

  • Period To. Mandatory. It is displayed only with “Interval” mode, and defines the final period of the to run. Only a Period of the selected Scenario can be chosen.

  • Keep source origin. If selected (default), the origin of the various records is taken into account; therefore, they are grouped by origin. If unselected, the origin detail is ignored (in this case, the aggregation is greater).

  • A Filters area. It allows you to specify possible filters on the Entity dimension. It is possible to specify an element or a node of a non-time dependent hierarchy.
