Dataset

What they are

Every workspace can contain one or several datasets, or logical definitions of tables containing workspace data. Datasets are organised in columns. Every column is called a dataset field and may contain both Financial Workspace dimensions and measure fields created directly in the dataset itself.

Every dataset defines the structure of the physical tables in the database to manage and save data in data entry mode (see Partitioning policies). Moreover, datasets allow the following activities:

• configuring virtual datasets (see Virtual datasets)
• depending on the configurations, defining the input and output content of DTP data processing (see Data Transformation Package (DTP)).

Note: when used in the DTP, datasets are identified as standard datasets, to distinguish them from the reference datasets (see Reference datasets).

Partitioning policies

It is possible to define dataset partitioning policies, or define the logic with which the tables are created in the database (partitions) on which the data are saved. Partitions are defined according to the submission policies of the business cycle of the process on which the user is working (see Dataset settings window).

Types

A type is a label which identifies a logical set of data in a dataset. It is defined in order to process data and perform calculations on the same table structure of the dataset to which it refers. The type contributes to determining the creation of partitions. A dataset may have several types, defined in order to be used in a Data Transformation Package. See Type definition page.

Visibility for users

Dataset visibility depends on the rights attributed to the user profile. When an administrator creates a dataset, they must check and potentially update the rights of users on workspaces and datasets and rerun the deployment. Details on the management of user rights and deployment are provided below.
