Handling manual changes on tables and charts

Introduction

After a table has been inserted into a document, the values within it and its style can be changed manually. It is possible to use maintain Data and Style features to keep these changes each time the object is updated, and not overwrite them with the content read from the source.

Below are procedures on how to keep data changes for Table objects and styles for Table and Chart objects, and how to restore values read from the source should you decide to overwrite these changes.

How to Keep Data Changes in the Table

Manual changes to the data of a table are understood to be all changes made by the user to text values, numbers, dates, etc. contained within the table cells. To keep or not keep any changes made to the data of a document table, it is necessary to open the Edit tab of the object and switch the 'Data' toggle on or off. In detail:

  • With the "Data" toggle on, if the data available on the table in the document are different from those read from the source, the values read on the document will be kept after the table update data processing is completed.
  • With the 'Data' toggle off, on the other hand, data values will always be read back from the source and any manual changes to the data will be lost at the end of the table update data processing

This option is not affected by where the table update is requested by the user (single, multiple or recursive update).

IMPORTANT: After manually editing table values, make sure that the document has completed saving the changes and its status is Saved before updating it. If the document is still being saved, any changes to the table will be lost even if the Data toggle is switched on.

How to Keep Manual Changes by Data for Multi-object Update

Before launching the update, the user edits, adds or deletes characters in one or more cells and sets the Toggle ON via EDIT mode.

  1. Select the Object List option from the ribbon
  2. Click on available updates
  3. select one or more checkboxes relating to the tables or charts on the document visible in the panel

  4. Select the down arrow of the Update button and choose one of the three available options:

  5. Update ( takes into account the status of the Flags set on each objects)

  6. Keep all changes (maintain overrides made regardless of Flag status)

  7. Full Reset (restores the Table/Chart to its source state)

  8. Click on the button and launch the desired update

Note if an object is selected that is not a Table or Chart the System does not display the arrow to choose options, whereas if at least one selected object is a Table or Chart the System displays the arrow and the user can still launch the update.

Note: If the table structure, known as cardinality, is altered by adding or deleting a row or column, at the end of the update operation, the System will not perform the changes and will display a Warning message "manual changes will not be made for cardinality change".

How to keep manual changes for Data and launch a recursive update

Having a Table or Chart added in a document part, after making manual changes and setting the Data Toggle to On or Off the user can launch an update recursively displaying on the Master document the Table with or without changed content depending on the option chosen.

  1. Select the Updates button from the ribbon
  2. Select the document(s) to be updated recursively
  3. Click on the button with the option Update and get changes
  4. Set On the Toggle include data in the update and select Update leaving Off the other Toggles
  5. The System launches the recursive update and displays the Table or Chart contained in the document part with the changed data taking into account the Data Flags set On or Off

  6. Set On the Include Data in Update Toggle and select one of the two enabled options and click the Update Button

  7. Enables full object restoration (the System launches a recursive update restoring the content of the document parts as per source)

  8. Keep all overrides (the system launches the recursive update and displays the Table or Chart contained in the document parts with the changed data without taking into account the set Data Flags)
