Conversion algorithm for matrices with analytic datasets

On-the-fly conversion for matrices with analytic datasets

In multidimensional matrices with data from analytic datasets containing the currency as a dimension, conversion can be performed on the fly.

When a matrix is being designed, the following properties are available on row/column or matrix filters related to the dimension.

Property Description
None The figure is not converted.
Based on measure - The figure is converted based on the conversion type defined for the measure in the dataset definition step.
Based on account For datasets with the account dimension only. The data conversion method corresponds with the account conversion method. See Details of conversion based on account.

List of conversion algorithms

The following conversion algorithms are supported for matrices with analytic datasets:

  • Average conversion type. Applies the average FX rate (year to date average FX rate: average FX rate from the start of the year to the period taken into consideration). In this case, the conversion algorithm subtracts from the cumulative value of the current period—converted at the average FX rate of the current period—the cumulative value of the previous period, converted at the average FX rate of the previous period.
  • Period average conversion type. Applies the period average FX rate (Average FX rate of the month taken into consideration). In this case, the conversion algorithm multiplies the value of the current period by the period average FX rate (of the same period).
  • Final conversion type. Applies the final FX rate (FX rate of the last day of the period taken into consideration). In this case, the conversion algorithm subtracts from the cumulative value of the current period—converted at the final FX rate of the current period—the cumulative value of the previous period, converted at the final FX rate of the previous period.

The type of monthly splitting applied to matrices with analytical datasets is Aggregation of periodic values, by virtue of the monthly saving of the analytical data. The period lengths supported for the conversion are all those that are active in the matrix design, with the exception of theLife to date period length.

Measure conversion algorithms

The conversion types that can be defined for a measure in matrices with analytical datasets are:

  • average FX rate
  • period average FX rate
  • final FX rate
  • none

With the option do not convert, the data are read and aggregated based on the measure policy without filtering or numeric conversion.

Details of conversion based on account

Conversion based on account is only applicable when the dataset contains the account dimension.

For conversion based on account, when the account's conversion type is not supported by analytical matrices, i.e. it is not average FX rate, period average FX rate or final FX rate (e.g. historic FX rate), the system applies the based on measure FX rate type.

The aggregation logic of the account, according to its nature, and of the measure, based on its configuration, are applied before conversion.

Conversion on datasets with no account

For a tab or form filter on the currency, the system behaves as follows:

  • If the matrix has no overrides on the currency dimension, the system considers the currency of the tab or form filter: if this specifies a final, average or period average conversion type, the system applies the based on measure conversion type. If the conversion type is do not convert, then only data in the chosen currency are displayed.
  • If the matrix has overrides on the currency dimension, global filters are not considered.

Conversion on datasets with Account

Where present in the tab/form filters, if the matrix has no overrides on the conversion the matrix settings are ignored and the based on account conversion type is applied.

Conversion details in cell properties

The cell properties report the details of the conversion type applied to each cell. For the based on account conversion type, if the account's conversion type is not supported for analytical matrices, the system applies the based on measure conversion type and cell properties report based on account as the applied conversion type.
