Row/column filters
Introduction¶
To define the content of the matrix, filters must be set on the rows, columns and potentially the entire matrix. In particular, in order to define a filter, select elements of the dimensions, said dimension elements and any aggregation structures the user wants to view or process the data of.
Specific features of filters on account dimensions¶
For the account dimension, the definition of filters can be simplified using financial statement templates or control groups (see Financial statement templates and Control groups: basic concepts).
A financial statement template (FST) is a structure used to aggregate accounts or custom accounts/dimensions that can represent financial statements (IAS profit and loss statements and balance sheets, management reports, direct/indirect financial reports), KPIs and other indices for reporting. A financial statement template can be added to a matrix in its entirety or in part as a filter to be able to design its structure more quickly and efficiently.
Similarly, when the structure of a control group conforms to the specifics of the form, it can be added as a filter so all the accounts contained in it are added to the form.

Row/column filter properties¶
When a filter is selected, the properties table displays all the properties of the filter with the relative values. Mandatory properties are set automatically to the default value. The user can edit filter properties to adapt the matrix configuration to their own business needs.
Depending on the type of property, the user can choose an option from among pre-set values, or enter formulas, dictionary items and so on.
When a row/column filter is added to an account dimension, the system changes the sign depending on the class assigned to the account (see Sign class).

Placeholder elements¶
To add empty rows/columns to the matrix, elements called placeholders can be added between row/column filters. The purpose of these elements is to add empty rows/columns directly into the matrix structure and regulate the layout of the form. In fact, any empty rows/columns added manually in Excel are overwritten when the form structure is changed.
Formulas¶
To add formulas to cells of the matrix, formula-type elements can be added between row/column filters. The purpose of these elements is to add formulas directly into the matrix structure. Any formulas added manually in Excel are overwritten when the form structure is changed.
Formulas can be used to insert a row total or a variance between two columns. For example, in a matrix with costs on the rows and two scenarios on the columns, it is possible to view in runtime an additional row containing the total costs for the two scenarios and the annual variance, calculated as the difference between the totals for the two scenarios. To obtain this result, a dedicated formula between the column filters must be prepared.
