The Break Back function
Function description¶
By default in CCH Tagetik, data entry takes place on the individual elements of dimensions, such as element A00-Company of the entity dimension, and not on nodes of aggregation structures, such as all entities belonging to the Europe node of the Geographical Area hierarchy defined on the entity dimension, for example.
However, in certain cases it may be useful to enter data on nodes. For example, when drafting a budget, it may be necessary to increase the total revenue of all entities belonging to the Europe node of the Geographical Area hierarchy. The break back functionality allows you to perform data entry via forms at the level of nodes of aggregation structures defined on the entity, account and custom dimensions, or on custom dimensions only.
With the Save on the reference element option set in the data entry step from form, the value entered on the node must always be attributed to the lowest reference element or distributed over the lowest level elements related to the same node in proportion to the old value
In particular, this makes the node cell editable and allows you to enter an amount manually. If the Save on the reference element option is not active, the value entered on the node is automatically distributed over all the elements of the node in proportion to the pre-existing values on the individual elements. If one of the elements related to the node on which data entry is being performed does not have a value, the system excludes it from the distribution. If none of the elements related to the mode have a value, the system will show an error message and ask you to define a reference element for the node within the hierarchy defined on the dimension. That reference element will be used by the system as the target of the entered data on which to apply the break back. Any element related to the node can be used as a reference element.
Break back can be activated and configured for the entire application at the data entry rules level; however, it can be overridden for individual processes (see Fields in the Break back section). Overrides set on process can in turn be overridden for individual matrices (see Matrix options tab).
