Specific Validation Rules

Purpose of the specific rules

These rules allow you to configure a diagnostic data processing by list elements of control groups and accounts. These rules can be defined for the following elements:

  • individual list elements, i.e. a control group or an account
  • grouping nodes, i.e. for all elements contained within the node
  • for all list elements, with ‘All elements’ option

These rules allow you to validate and balance data. However, before they can be used, they must first be processed to obtain all possible combinations of list elements and categories/nodes derived from their definition.

A preview of this data processing can be downloaded as a report in the rule definition windows.

The system processes records in the same order in which they are entered. It is therefore important to pay attention to the sequence of the rules—what is added later could invalidate what was entered earlier

Validation granularity

For each list element, it is therefore possible to specify the database to be validated (category or node) and the level of detail at which it should be validated.

Selecting rule Granularity Description
Specific category Journal Only if the category is of ‘journal’ type. The validation will return errors by journal number.
Specific category Category Only if the category is not of ‘consolidation journal’ type. The validation returns errors by category. If the category is a pre-consolidation journal, the journal number is not shown, as several journals may be totalled together.
Categories node Journal The node is deployed into the categories it contains. The specified granularity applies to the entity journal and consolidation journal categories obtained. The granularity by category is applied to the amount type categories obtained.
Categories node Category The node is deployed into the categories it contains. The specified granularity is applied to the Amount and Entity journal type categories obtained. Other categories will be discarded.
Categories node Node The node is not deployed, but the algebraic sum of the categories that compose it is validated
All categories Journal All table categories are read. The specified granularity is applied to the entity journals and consolidation journal categories The category granularity is applied to the amount categories.
All categories Category Only the list categories of amount and entity journal type are read. The specified granularity is applied.

Category node type

The diagnostic data processing distinguishes between three types of nodes – that is, groupings– for the Categories:

  • Entity groupings. The node contains only Entity categories - namely amounts and/or Entity journals - of the contributor. These groupings can be validated on both Entities and contributor nodes, in both original and consolidation scenarios.
  • Consolidator entity groupings. The node contains only Entity categories - namely amounts and/or Entity journals - but at least one of them belongs to the consolidator. These groupings can be validated on consolidator nodes, in both original and consolidation scenarios.
  • Consolidator groupings. The node also contains a single Consolidation journal category. These groupings can be validated on consolidator nodes, only in consolidation scenarios, and only for the ‘Converted’ and ‘Consolidable’ amount types.
